RAI
Italy's state broadcasting network, Radio Televisione Italiana (RAI), uses Agility software to automate its streaming media production operations as part of the broadcaster's Teca Veloce (Fast Archive) digital media archive project, which integrates industry leading technologies - such as those by Anystream, Grass Valley Group, Silicon Graphics and more - to digitally archive and repurpose the Italian broadcaster's 50-year footage library. The project includes a four-site, high-speed network that RAI news journalists and program producers in Rome can use to access, retrieve and distribute high-resolution media (10 Mbps, 4:2:2, long GOP) archived video and shared storage material for national production.
RAI uses Agility as an automated, reliable technology for Internet-based publishing applications. Agility software can ingest archived news and program clips in the native Grass Valley GXF file format from RAI's data tape library and server cluster (which serve as the storage backbone of Teca Veloce project). Agility then automatically preprocesses the material to optimize it for Web-based viewing, encodes the source material into any number of popular streaming formats and bit rates, and distributes the finished clips to their intended destination.
